3 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE STARTING YOUR REMODELING MARKETING EFFORTS

Website DesignIf you’re in the business of remodeling, you probably spend a good deal of time thinking about how to attract new clients.  A quick online search for remodeling marketing will drum up hundreds of results with all the ways in which you could grow your company’s online presence.   But buyer beware, one size does not fit all.   Implementing numerous marketing tactics just for the sake of marketing won’t increase your customer base.  Instead, it’ll spread your resources thin and create frustration when you realize that customers aren’t flying in through the door.
Before choosing your marketing methods for your remodeling business, it’s important that you understand the needs of your business and what has and hasn’t worked in the past. As a start, ask yourself the following questions.
What have I done recently to market my business to new and existing   clients?
You should have a clear idea of what you’ve already done.  Have you pursued more traditional forms of marketing (e.g., print advertising, local radio ads)?  Where did you execute your strategies (local trade shows, fairs, bus stops, etc.)? Are you doing anything online, besides perhaps making infrequent updates to your website?  The goal here is to create a baseline and figure out what’s been beneficial thus far.
How have I been tracking these efforts?
Do you know how much it’s cost to create and implement each initiative? And remember, the cost of marketing your business includes more than the dollars spent on materials.  The time spent on strategizing, creating, and implementing a plan has a tangible value as well.  Additionally, did you create concrete goals or metrics to measure the success of each plan or tactic?
What were the results of your efforts?
How successful was each initiative?  How many leads did you generate with each new project and how many jobs or clients did you secure?  How much revenue did you create?
If some of these questions made you feel like a deer in the headlights, it’s ok.  The point is to get a broad sense of what has been fruitful in the past.  This will give you some leverage when deciding how to move forward.  It will also give you valuable insight as to how you should measure and assess all of your future marketing plans.
